Eye Drops For Dry, Irritated Dry Eye Condition

Dry eye affects millions of people, men and women, and is especially prevalent in women during their peri- and post-menopausal years. Contact lens wearers, those living in dry climates, corneal transplant patients, glaucoma patients using irritating prescription eye drops, sufferers of Sjogrens disease, a systemic autoimmune disease in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears, vaginal secretions, and saliva, are some of those whom experience “dry eye.”

The dry eye condition is characterized by an insufficiency of the amount and/or quality of the tears that normally form a gel-like film on top of the cornea that is on the anterior surface of the cornea. Normally the tear film forms not only a cushioning and moisturizing protective layer on the cornea, but also provides nourishment and “wound-healing” functions to the cornea. When this protective and nourishing tear film is compromised, the cornea becomes irritated, inflamed, and the structural integrity of the layers of the cornea can be deconstructed, leading to impaired vision.

The end result of this condition can be constant irritation, pain, and impaired vision, i.e. a partial loss of sight decreasing the quality of life, and for many, resulting in a reduced ability to perform their daily tasks, including those tasks performed at their workplace.

A new product is now on the market from BioRegenerative Sciences (BRS) in San Diego, California, that alleviates the dry eye condition. Using stem cell-based technology, BRS’ eye drops, called “I-Ease,” restore the quality and quantity of the tears found in the normal, healthy eye. The nourishing factors are returned to the corneal surface by dropping I-Ease once or twice daily in the affected eyes. The “nourishing factors” are derived from adult stem cells that would normally be present in the eye to supply those factors to the tear film sitting on top of the cornea.

The results using I-Ease are far better than anything else on the market; irritation, pain, and impaired vision are all greatly diminished or eradicated using I-Ease. Whether the patient suffers severe dry eye, irritation from a transplant, allergies, irritation from contact lens usage, irritating glaucoma medications, or other corneal irritations, I have witnessed how I-Ease can greatly improve the indication.
